Romeo and Juliet, Love, Death and Rivalry

The story, Romeo and Juliet, by William Shakespeare, portrays the effect of two family’s rivalry on their deeply in love children. This is the result of when two enemies are forced to intersect, causing love, death and rivalry for their family and most importantly, their indifferent children, who if it weren’t for them, this tragic story would not end in a tragic way. In Romeo and Juliet, the Capulet’s and Montague’s feud create a story filled with love and death for their family.
Romeo and Juliet’s love for each other were powerful enough for them to drive each other to kill themselves. Both Romeo and Juliet chose to go against their parents and dishonor their family by choosing love over their rivalry. Romeo risked getting caught seeing Juliet which would have led to serious punishment, most likely death. Act 2, scene 2, Romeo sneaks into Juliet’s garden with hopes of seeing her. During the slim amount of time they have to talk, Juliet’s is constantly being called from her balcony into the house by the Nurse, and mother, Lady Capulet. Romeo climbs up upon her balcony and nearly missed her nurse approaching Juliet, risking his life just for the chance to talk to his love. In act 5, scene 3, when Juliet discovers Romeo has committed suicide while thinking she was dead, Juliet stabs herself to death with his dagger. These two examples show the intensity of their love, and that Romeo and Juliet’s love for each other was very strong.
The Capulet’s and Montague’s feud caused homicide and suicide among their families as well. Their strong dislike for each other caused numerous quarrels to erupt between family members between both families. Act 3, Scene 1, Tyblt, lady Capulet’s cousin, kills Mercutio, one of Romeo’s closest friends, in a street fight. Romeo kills Tyblt in anger of him slaying Mercutio. Another cause of death the Capulet’s and Montague’s rivalry brought upon their friends and family is suicide. Romeo and Juliet’s desperate need to be with each other, caused them to choose death over the thought of living without each other. Act 5, scene 1, Romeo buys poison to kill himself after he discovers Juliet has ‘killed’ herself. This shows the Capulet’s and Montague’s feud caused lots of death among their family. The rivalry theme is this story is one of much tragedy, for countless of deaths occur throughout the book, all of which connect to love and death.
Romeo and Juliet were uncontrollably born into a family that had rivalries. The Montague’s and Capulet’s have long since disliked each other, and at any chance would be delighted to cause harm to the other, if not, both would prefer to not have any contact with each other. In the big fight scene, Act 3, scene 1, Mercutio, Benvolio, Romeo wander the streets in Verona, cautious of Montague’s that could be wandering the streets. Aware that a fight might break out if they stayed in the streets of Verona, they and sure enough a sword fight broke out between Tyblt and mercutio, then Romeo and Tylblt. The rivalry of their parents and so on before that, caused there to be an instant rivalry between their children and any new people that were added to the family. Because Romeo and Juliet had just that happen to them, they instantly became part of the rivalry that these two families had. The fight scene is a perfect example of how the relationship between these families, was. In this Shakespeare Story, the two main characters were born into families that had a strong rivalry; therefor they uncontrollably were expected to be part of this feud.
Romeo and Juliet is a story full of love, death and rivalry. Although all of these themes differ from each other greatly, the story Romeo and Juliet, by William Shakespeare, is piece of writing that countless of themes contribute to. Death takes part in this story because of the dangerous rivalry between the Montague’s and the Capulet’s. Rivalry in this story goes way back in the past of the Montague’s and Capulet’s, a feud that could hardly be resolved. And love the theme from the starting to ending of this story, Romeo and Juliet’s romance.
